Giclée artwork:
Are these limited edition Giclées?

Studio EL images are plate signed and numbered in image editions of 450 or 950, depending on the artwork. However, within the edition, we can customize the size, material and treatment.

What is the difference between a canvas transfer and a Giclée?

A canvas transfer is a method by which an open edition poster is transferred onto a canvas-textured surface. This is not an original work of art or a limited edition. A Giclée is a process of reproducing an image directly onto canvas or paper, resulting in art that will never peel or tear off the surface, is fully archival, and has much greater detail and clarity than a canvas transfer. A Giclée is a fine art original, generally a limited edition. For these reasons, Giclées are commonly more expensive than canvas transfers and are collected by most of the major art museums, galleries and historical institutes around the world.

Are poster images in the Editions Limited catalogue available as canvas Giclées?

Yes, numerous poster images in our exclusive Editions Limited catalogue may be printed as open edition canvas or paper Giclées. You can view all available imagery on this website.

Are Studio EL Giclées available in any size?

Custom sizing is an option at any size that is proportionate to the original; up to 54"x96". We offer recommended sizes for each image that are most popular and work for most spaces. Open edition poster images must be ordered equal to or larger than the original poster.

Can I get canvas Giclées ready to hang? What are my options and what is a gallery wrap?

Yes, we can stretch your canvas Giclée and mount hardware on the back so that it is ready to hang, no additional framing necessary. There are two options for canvas Giclées:

Unstretched: Canvases will be rolled and shipped directly to you for stretching and/or framing.

Stretched Canvas with Gallery Wrap: The canvas will be stretched around 2" wood stretcher bars and stapled on the back, ready to hang. The image will be "mirrored," unless the image has a flat color near the edge, in that case the same color will be on the sides as well. You may also request 3 point secure locking hardware for public installations.

How long does it take to receive my Studio EL Giclée?

Since each piece is created to your custom specification, we don’t begin producing the artwork until your order is received. Studio EL limited edition Giclées require 2 weeks to produce before shipping and open edition poster images require 3 weeks.

Is there any hand embellishment or extra metallic texture painted on the Giclées?

Yes, we do provide hand embellishment, which will add texture, color or even metallic leaf to each Giclée. Please contact your sales representative and we can work directly with you to achieve a specific look in your price range.

Are there price discounts for quantity orders?

Yes, the Studio EL is a great solution for high volume orders. We will tailor each of our Giclée editions to your project whether it is a boutique hotel, office lobby or retail outlet. We offer pricing discounts and freight shipping for volume orders.

Are the Giclées UV resistant? What is the quality of the inks?

Our inks are developed specifically for the Giclée process and for each substrate. They are a solvent / pigment base that is UV resistant and completely archival. Like all artwork, however, it is important to keep your Giclée out of direct sunlight to maximize its’ lifespan.

What will happen if I spill coffee on a Studio EL Giclée?

Giclées are not generally water resistant. Any liquid may absorb into the paper or cause the inks to run on a paper Giclée. Our canvas inks are water resistant, but still should be protected from liquid. When cleaning, use a soft, dry cloth or feather duster.

Can you box and ship stretched canvas Giclées directly to my customer?

Yes, we can ship bulk orders as well as single canvases in boxes or rolled in tubes anywhere in the world.

Luxe Editions: fine art prints on aluminum
Are Luxe Editions sold as limited edition prints?

Yes, each image is offered in 2 different sizes. Each size is limited to a very exclusive set of 25 prints that are signed and numbered on the reverse.

I’ve seen this before... Isn’t this printed onto plastic then glued to the aluminum?

No, our technologically advanced process of printing applies the ink directly to the substrate, allowing the natural luster of the brushed aluminum and the rich texture of the bamboo to show through, avoiding the cheap, plastic look seen in the past.  Printing directly on the acrylic lets you look straight through the image to the wall creating a unique look and dimensional effect.

Are they printed on real aluminum?

Yes, we chose to use real aluminum in order to achieve the high-end look desired. Our aluminum panels are composites, consisting of 2 sheets of aluminum trapping a polyethylene core. This construction creates a 1/8" thick, lightweight sheet that will not bend or warp over time.

Yes, the material we use is 100% bamboo. We use 1/2" thick and 3-ply material to prevent warping. It is sustainably grown and harvested to ensure all the wonderful attributes associated with bamboo, including strength, hardness as well as natural resistance to moisture, molds, mildews and termites. We chose to keep the natural, blonde color of the wood so that the images would show up clearly. The edges have been sanded to produce a clean refined look, although as with all natural products there are unique characteristics inherent to each piece.

Is clear acrylic the same as plexiglass?

Plexiglass is a brand of acrylic, as is Lucite or Acrylite. Our clear acrylic is 3/8" thick and comes finished with polished edges. If you order your Luxe Edition ready-to-hang, the acrylic will be prepared with holes drilled in each corner. These holes are required when using the supplied brushed aluminum stand-off hardware. This simple, decorative hardware floats the artwork 1" from the wall showcasing the translucence of the printed image and the clear acrylic substrate.

Is the aluminum or acrylic product moisture resistant?

Since the aluminum panel is treated to prevent oxidization and the inks are cured by UV light, Luxe Edition prints on aluminum and acrylic are not only moisture resistant, they are almost entirely weather resistant!

But are they durable?

Like most things, Luxe Editions on any substrate can scratch when rubbed against abrasive materials or sharp objects; however, they are much more impact resistant than glass and hold up to dropping better than a frame.

Do I need to frame Luxe Edition prints?

Luxe Editions may be purchased as just the panel to be framed as desired or ready-to-hang. If you choose to order the panel only, we suggest floating this in a canvas floater frame. However, we also offer each aluminum and bamboo piece with hanging hardware mounted to the back, effectively spacing the artwork about 1" from the wall.  Clear acrylic prints will have a hole in each corner and brushed aluminum stand-off hardware will be provided for easy installation.

Are Luxe Editions on aluminum green?

Studio EL cares about the environment and strives to bring sustainable manufacturing, materials and products to the art market.

Luxe Editons on bamboo are excellent 'green' products.  Our bamboo has minimal impact on the environment and is highly sustainable.  The aluminum panels are manufactured by a LEED rated company and the inks we use do not contain VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) used to print most Giclées. Therefore, these inks are less toxic and help contribute to a safer and healthier working environment at our press and in your home.

Are Luxe Edition images also available on canvas or paper?

Yes, almost all Luxe Edition images are also available as a custom sized Giclées on canvas or paper. Giclées are offered in an edition of 450 and may be custom sized up to 54" x 96". Canvas works may be wrapped around 2" deep stretcher bars or ordered unstretched.
